Super Achievements of the top IB schools in the World! We rank the best IB schools by the number of students scoring the maximum 45 IBDP points in 2023
The IBDP points scoring system allows for a maximum score of 45 points, from six subjects (7 points max each) plus a further three points from the IB Core comprising of CAS, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge paper. It’s a very stretching curriculum which is why each year fewer than 1% of candidates score the maximum of 45. These students are known as 'Toppers'.
For the last year the IBO has been rebalancing the exam standards to pre-Covid levels because the relaxation of pass standards caused by teacher recommended assessments caused the average IB scores to inflate by up to 10%. Thus, the new standards for the May 2023 exam have not only reduced the global average score to 30.24 but also the percentage of Toppers. In May 2022 it dropped to 0.44% and for 2023 it must be lower but the IBO has suddenly decided to stop publishing that percentage.
Any IB school with one or more Toppers knows what a super achievement it is to be on maximum points with fewer than 0.5% of global candidates achieving it. We think that the number of Toppers per school should be celebrated in a similar way that most schools in Asia publicise their Topper students. It is common practice to post pictures of those students on their school websites and social media.
We are only listing those international schools we know of who had more than two Toppers. It is a reflection of how good a school’s academic standards are if they have more than two Topper students. In comparing schools it is important to take into account how many IB students it has. Our top school in India, DAIS of Mumbai had a whopping 11 Topper students in 2023 from a cohort of 106 IBDP students, which means their percentage of Toppers was more than 10% compared to the global average of less than 0.5% - a remarkable measure of their teaching quality.

DAIS of Mumbai came top of our Global Toppers table for 2023. They were very proud to publish their winning group, as seen above. All the schools in this league table will receive an award certificate to celebrate this exclusive group of hard-working students. We encourage you to hyperlink to this web page using the logo at the top of the page which can be copied and pasted onto your own website.
Of course most of these schools also appear in the top 10 of their own country and are therefore highly sought after. It does also mean they are mostly selective on their admissions intake. However, talk to us at Education Advisers if you have an ambition to target one of these schools.
Note: We can only publish these scores if a school allows us to use their statistics. There is one school in Singapore which had double digit Toppers but has requested we refrain from identifying them, which we have agreed to.
