Bedford School
Bedford is a nationally respected boys’ independent school set in parkland in Bedfordshire, 50 miles north of London. Although single sex the school has close ties with Bedford Girls’ School. Tradition combines with innovative educational thinking to provide a challenging environment within a strong community, with Bedford producing well-rounded young men who are, in headmaster James Hodgson's words, 'able to hold a conversation'. The school is the proud recipient of the Independent Boys’ School of the Year in 2021.
Bedford School has been educating boys since 1552 and has a strong focus on fostering a spirit of service and entrepreneurship. The school’s values are ‘integrity, responsibility, endeavour and curiosity’ and boys have the opportunity to excel not only academically but also in sport and the arts. Bedford is a very sporty school with rugby, hockey and cricket and rowing being the main sports, but a very wide range of others are catered for. Art, DT, Drama and Music are all excellent and the school has a new theatre for both school and community productions.
There are several boarding houses catering for boys of all ages and pastoral care is outstanding. In the 6th form boys can study either A Levels or the IB and results are consistently good. Several boys gain admission to Oxbridge and medical school each year.
