TASIS - The American School in England

Coldharbour Lane, Thorpe, Surrey, TW20 8TE, United Kingdom

What is TASIS like?

Founded in 1976 by American educator Mary Crist Fleming, TASIS The American School in England is a leading international, co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 3 - 18, with boarding beginning at age 13. Situated in a beautiful 46-acre campus with historic buildings and state-of-the-art facilities, yet only 30 minutes by train from central London and 15 minutes by car from London Heathrow Airport, the School offers the American High School Diploma, AP courses and the IB Diploma Programme.

TASIS is a true international school, with students from 58 different nationalities and no more than 12% from one nationality, to ensure diversity in the student population. Class sizes are small (the average class size in the Upper School is just 10), and the teacher to student ration is 6:1. TASIS students go on to study at top universities all over the world, including Ivy League institutions3333 in the US and Russell Group in the UK.

Would TASIS be suitable for my child?

TASIS offers an excellent all-round education in an international context and is ideal for global families who want their children educated in an international environment with the flexibility of the American or IB curriculum. The suburban location offers a viable alternative to other international schools in London. Sports and activities are offered in all three sections of the School on a trimester basis so that students can explore their interests and try new things. Students are introduced to the various team and individual sports in a structured and safe learning environment that gives them the opportunity to develop skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Like other international schools. TASIS operates a relatively flexible admissions process. Students are assessed for suitability primarily on the basis of their school reports and recommendation. For global families who want their children educated in an international environment with the flexibility of the American or IB curriculum, TASIS is a very good choice. The suburban location offers a viable alternative to other international schools in London.

With beautiful, modern facilities to support the Arts programs, the School hosts many music recitals and concerts, theatre productions, art and photography exhibitions, and dance performances during the school year. Their campus in Surrey is ideally located close to London, enabling students to supplement their classroom studies with visits to museums, art galleries, and theatres. As each student navigates their individual learning journey, they have the option to study a huge variety of courses focused on the creative arts. TASIS England is proud of its extensive Arts programs which include Studio and Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance, Music, and Film.

The school's founder Mrs. M. Crist Fleming believed that the world should be one's classroom. By extending learning beyond the impressive TASIS England campus, students are able to develop important life skills and gain a first-hand perspective of the world, which would not be possible through classroom instruction alone. Their location enables pupils to draw upon the cultural riches of Europe and trips are often the highlight of the school year. They open up a world where students can discover and develop personal interests – whether that’s igniting a life-long love of a culture or cuisine, a fascination with a period or style of art, or an affinity for a sport.
