Tanglin Trust School
What is Tanglin Trust School like?
Established in 1925, Tanglin Trust School is the oldest British international school in Southeast Asia. With over 55 nationalities represented, Tanglin is a vibrant co-educational school that provides British-based learning with an international perspective. Tanglin is the only school in Singapore to offer students the choice to take either A Level or the IBDP programme at Sixth Form, both of which achieve consistently outstanding results. A choice of qualification means each student in Senior School is offered a tailored education. Regular feedback through sharing data and face-to-face parent-teacher meetings are integral to helping students accomplish their academic goals, and for parents to support them on their Sixth Form pathway. Tanglin has an excellent academic reputation. Students' examination results consistently surpass Singapore and global averages, with around 96% of graduates receiving their first or second choice university, which are among the best in the world.
The Approach to Education
Tanglin believes in providing a holistic education and values the importance of extracurricular activities alongside academic achievement. The co-curricular programme serves as a crucial pathway to broaden students' horizons, presenting them with avenues to explore a diverse range of skills and interests that will support and enhance their studies, and enrich their lives beyond school. Sports and arts are celebrated as part of its extensive CCA programme.
New Facilities & Opportunities
The Centenary Building which opened in 2023 is an impressive addition to the school campus, with aspirational facilities designed to benefit the school and wider Tanglin community. Students of all ages now enjoy the Olympic standard gymnasium and swimming pool, 25 metre climbing wall, as well as a state-of-the-art Music Department. Located over two floors, the department is a central music hub for the whole School, where Seniors and Juniors can participate in individual and group lessons, and ensembles and performances can happen. Tanglin recently launched the Centenary Music Scholarship. Open to Senior School students, the scholarship reflects Tanglin’s high academic expectations and demonstrates how inspirational learning spaces lead to aspirational learning opportunities. The Centenary Building is also home to The Institute@Tanglin which encourages engagement in meaningful discourse and thought leadership. The forum is designed to promote academic stretch which is required when tackling the challenging IBDP curriculum.
Recent Achievements & Developments
Tanglin has again been named as one of the top 100 private schools in the world in the Spear’s Schools Index as well as a top 10 school in Asia. Tanglin recently launched The Highlands Programme, a 5-week experiential learning programme for Year 9 students based at the Tanglin Gippsland campus in Australia, emphasising the school’s commitment to creating new learning experiences which support students’ holistic education. The Tanglin 2023 IB cohort is a testament to this award, achieving an average Diploma score of 38.7 points, more than 8.5 points above the world average of 30.2.
